EXHIBITION “Handicraft masters of Põltsamaa. Clothes converse, fabrics speak.”
With the exhibition, craft masters Katre Arula and Kersti Pook create a complete visitor journey to the Mesitrite House in the Põltsamaa Castle courtyard. The display includes clothing, bags, accessories and home textiles created with craftsmanship and sustainability in mind.
KATRE: “Clothes converse”
Katre has created several author’s techniques, the likes of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Items made using author’s techniques bear the RECOGNIZED ESTONIAN HANDICRAFT label issued by the Estonian Folk Art and Crafts Association. The techniques value the heritage of our ancestors and enable the creation of handicraft creations inspired by this heritage. Through the exhibition, visitors can gain an overview of the designer’s development and his dedication to environmentally friendly and locally based fashion creations.
Katre has received several awards and recognitions, which shows the creator’s dedication to handmade creation. Over 30 solo exhibitions, nearly 70 participations in group exhibitions, 30 smaller and larger fashion shows deserve attention, the brightest moments of which are presented in the permanent exhibition.
Several films have also been made based on Katre’s work, which also feature prominently in the exhibition.
Come and be part of the dialogue between the book “Clothes Converse” and the exhibition “Clothes Converse”!
KERSTI: „Fabrics Speak”
The Estonian weaving tradition has been very modest for a long time. Few exhibitions and displays have been organized, because there is a shortage of high-level craftsmen in Estonia. Weaving has been a craft accessible to very few people. Today, there is already a small school in Estonia that is able to teach this complex craft to those who wish. One exemplary example is the master Kersti Pook from Põltsamaa Castle Yard. She is ready to invest her time and energy in teaching others and introducing the traditions of weaving. The master wants to bring the “magic world” of weaving to the viewer, through a very simple and exciting exhibition, inspiring and sharing her world of thought and inspiration. By giving people knowledge; these exhibition exhibits are made on hand looms and right here in Põltsamaa Castle Yard by the local master. All the works have been made for the exhibition and following the Estonian national craft tradition. The viewer can also put their hand on it and try weaving the material. The materials are wool and cotton yarns used in Estonia. I want to make complicated things simple and arouse interest in complex things in the most ignorant person. The craftsmen of the Põltsamaa Castle Master’s House make a significant contribution to local marketing and a positive impact on the region through their unique and award-winning creations.
